Since Barnes & Noble no longer makes its own Nooks, it has
recently joined forces with Samsung to create the bookseller's latest tablet --
the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook. If you're already familiar with Samsung's tablet
line, the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook can be a perfect fit for the booklover in you. The
new tablet, which you can get today at $179, features a 7-inch display, $200 of
free content, and in-store customer support. So what other things does the
Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook has to offer? Here are the top five features of this
new tablet from Samsung.
Along with Android 4.4
KitKat running on the tablet, the Tab 4 Nook will also have Barne's &
Noble's Nook software, but in app form instead of of the whole interface. You
would notice a Resume Reading button at the bottom right corner of the tablet's
home screen, which when pressed, will open and direct you to the exact spot of
the book you were reading the last time. The Nook app will offer personalized
recommendations based on your reading and viewing habits and preferences. Not
to mention B&N's entire library of 3 million books (what?!), magazines, and
newspapers, as well as its TV and movie selections will also be within reach
for every Tab 4 Nook users. Now that's cool!
The new Samsung Galaxy
Tab 4 Nook sports a 7-inch, 1280 x 800-pixel display, a typical size for
tablets of this size. Simply looking on its outward design makes you think
there's almost no difference between this 7-inch tablet and the existing Galaxy
Tab 4. Chrome is present on its curved edges, an all-glass face, a firm home
button placed alongside the capacitive menu and back buttons, and a
faux-leather back casing. Featuring a 1.2MP lens on front and a 3MP camera at
the back, the camera is a welcome add-on as it is the first Nook released with
two cameras.
This is probably the best
feature for families -- the Tab 4 Nook is capable of supporting up to six user
accounts, allowing parents to load content that are appropriate to each of
their children on separate interfaces. Some interactive kids' books that
encourages learning include Read to Me, Read and Play, and Read and Record.
However, the Tab 4 Nook is somewhat lacking a feature which lets parents set
time limits on the type of content that their children are viewing.
Just like with other
recently released Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and the Galaxy
S5, the Tab 4 Nook also features a multi-window mode, which allows its users to
open two apps at once on the display. This feature is highly useful, especially
if you're in the middle of reading a book and you suddenly need to check
something on the Web or search for the meaning of a word you've just read.
If Amazon has Mayday,
Barnes & Noble is proud to offer its in-person customer support. So how
does this actually work? Tab 4 Nook owners can bring their tablets to any
Barnes & Noble store, where they can get free tech support and assistance
in setting up or even troubleshooting their tablet.
